Atlanta!
Over the past 3 weeks John has had a lot going on with work. A little over a month ago Nielsen started posting positions in cities we thought could be a possibility for our family. Three weeks ago they posted an opening in Atlanta.
It wasn't our first choice (although after 2 years we're not really sure what our first choice is anymore...) but we really feel strongly about being close to family and so we decided he would apply for it.
His first interview was nerve-racking for me (& him too!). It was scheduled and then postponed. (This happened last year with Atlanta too... and then they decided not to fill the position at all.) When it finally did happen the interviewer was DRIVING while he did the interview. There were two ways we could look at that: 1. he already knew John would be a great candidate so he wasn't too concerned OR 2. he wasn't really going to be hiring this time either.
About a week after the interview John got a call asking more specific questions about his availability. We started to feel like this just might actually be happening, but we still had no job offer. We started looking online at houses and communities. We started checking out schools. We asked questions of family & friends we know in the area that we'd move to IF a job was offered.
And then the calls started coming in and finally, early Friday morning John accepted the position in the Atlanta LPM.
We told my parents and close friends at Georgie's party on Friday evening. It put a damper on the birthday celebration (which totally sucked! but Georgie didn't seem to notice and neither did the other kids). And we told John's parents and our brothers this evening. We plan to tell the kids in a day or two.
It's all a bit overwhelming. I can't even think about it without crying. I feel so blessed to finally have our prayers answered, but getting that job means leaving behind everything we know. We're excited about this new adventure for our family, but leaving here is going to break my heart. It's bittersweet. And hard and exciting and everything in between.
